Let’s have a look at how to construct an effective vision board for your life!

What is a vision board, and why do they work

  1. What is a vision board?
  2. Why do vision boards work?

Before you start creating a vision board, make sure you have a clear understanding of what they are and why they work.

Vision boards are a way to help you see your future.

A vision board comprises pictures, words, or phrases that represent what we want in our lives. Then they hang somewhere visible, so every day when something good happens, like a compliment from someone else, it can bring us back into reality with all this hope for success ahead!

These scenes can come from anywhere like magazines, newspapers, things you see on tv or when you travel places…the possibilities are endless!

What is a vision board?

What-is-a-vision-board

A vision board is a collage of your dreams and aspirations that you create to manifest them into reality.

A vision board can visually represent an individual’s goals, desires, and hopes.

It often contains pictures and words that represent what the person wants to achieve in their life or what they want to have.

Many people use this tool for personal development by writing affirmations and displaying them where they will see them every day.

Others might create one with images from magazines and newspapers – these are called collages.

A vision board is an interactive tool for visualizing goals and desires to take action toward achieving them more easily.

The process involves gathering pictures and words that one desires on poster boards or computer files to create a “plan.”

Visions boards may also include symbols representing things like

  • love
  • money
  • career
  • success

etc.,

depending on the goal of the person creating them.

2.1 Why do vision boards work?

Why-do-vision-boards-work

In a nutshell, they work because the human brain works best with visuals.

The human brain is the most powerful computer in our society, and it’s best suited to process visuals.

That means if you want something specific enough for your mind to grab onto then pictures will work far better than text or any other form of communication because they’re easier on its memory capacity!

Without images, the human brain is not as productive.

Visuals in any given task increase efficiency and effectiveness by providing an instant translation of something on screen or paper. It helps people process information more quickly than reading words with no accompanying image to go alongside them.

Vision boards tap into that fact and put you much further and faster along your way to achieving your goals than if you relied on words alone.

While words may describe your desires or what you want to do, vision boards help you feel those things as accurate.

I’m going to share some of my best examples, tips and tricks for creating a vision board.

First, we will look at how to create a physical vision board, later we will see how to create a virtual or digital version.

I’ve been making vision boards and mind movies for years and they’ve always been an integral part of manifesting in my life.

The first thing you need is an image, so pick one that speaks to you or has meaning behind it.

You can even get creative with this step by using collage paper, glue sticks, scissors and old magazines to create your very own masterpiece!

Next is the fun part – adding all of your hopes and dreams onto the poster board!

There are no rules here-you should add anything that resonates with you from big goals like getting married or buying a house down to little daydreams like winning the lottery or having delicious homemade pasta

Creating a vision board is supposed to be the key to manifesting your deepest desires, but all too often they end up collecting dust on a shelf.

If you want to make a vision board that actually works, follow these tips.

  1. First, choose images and words that resonates with you and inspires you.
  2. Next, make sure your board is visually appealing and relevant to your goals.

With these simple guidelines, you can create a vision board that will help you achieve your dreams!

All of these things are possible if you make a vision board and put it out into the universe.

How to create a physical vision board

  1. What should a vision board be about?
  2. Collect images/pictures
  3. Find inspirational words or affirmations
  4. Putting it all together

Creating a physical vision board is a fun activity for a person that loves to get messy with magazines, glue, scissors, and big dreams.

But did you know that you can make it using an app or software which saves you time and the messy part? I want to share a helpful tool that I’ve been using on and off for years.

But first, let’s create your first physical vision board.

A physical vision board is an easy way to keep your goals in front of you every day as you work towards them.

Many people think that vision boards are only for creative types like artists or entrepreneurs, but anyone can use them – even if it means making one just for yourself!

Step 0: Checklist

checklist-physical-paper-board

Here’s a useful checklist of things you must have to create a physical version of your vision board.

  1. Pens
  2. Card board A4 or A3
  3. White paper A4-size
  4. Magazines in your chosen topic
  5. Scissors
  6. Glue

Step 1: What should a vision board be about?

Step-1-What-should-a-vision-board-be-about

In the vision board plan, you first must decide what your vision board will be about.

Then, you start working on it.

In the first 5 minutes, you decide on your high-value idea that you want to focus on.

For me, this is business and productivity.

For you, this is whatever is your main point of focus is and makes the most sense to you.

What do you want most in life?

  • Money
  • A new job
  • Love
  • A Caribbean vacation?

The first step of creating a Vision Board is to write down what exactly you want from your life.

Here, make a rational choice.

Go for what you want. Not what you need.

Because when you have the things you always wanted, the things you needed will be attracted to you.

Makes sense, right?

Start by analyze your current situation and jot down things that would matter a few years from now.

If we continue with my example, I would list the following things:

  • Business vision end result
  • Business how it would look like
  • Business what the profits are
  • My inner goal of freedom and how it feels (perhaps I’m sitting on a chair on the beach)

So now, I have all my 4 most important things written down.

Now, it’s your turn to write down yours.

Avoid skipping steps, this is a practical guide on how to create your dream board.

Done?

Decide what it is now. Make sure you write it down.

Step 2: Collect images/pictures

Step-2-Collect-images-pictures

Now that you’ve made your list of things to do and wanted, start collecting pictures.

Look for inspirational Visualization Quotes on WhatsApp forwards or images which motivate you in achieving future goals!

For example, if your dream is to own a house.

All you have to do is collect photos of your perfect house and hang them on a board with captions and sayings that keep you motivated and push you to achieve your objectives.

You have a choice of buying magazone

If you don’t have a favorite magazine about houses. Purchase one or two publications on beautiful homes from your local store.

Make sure to go through these and cut out 6-8 images that inspire you.

It doesn’t have to be full pictures of a house, it can be tiny details that you like, such as a fancy kitchen designed just the way you like it.

Perhaps the house has a pool.

Copy that idea, if that’s what you want.

Do this first, then move onto the next step.

Ready?

Ok, let’s move onto the next step.

Step 3: Find inspirational words or affirmations

Step-3-Find-inspirational-words-or-affirmations

Now that you have found the right images, it’s time to choose on WORDS. Look for words that represent the end goal in your list of dreams.

Such as:

  • Success
  • Abundance
  • Cash
  • Happy
  • Love/Loving
  • Freedom Lifestyle

Etc.

Affirmation examples:

Affirmations can be powerful to use in a vision board, here are a few examples.

  1. “I deserve to live in a comfortable house with my family”
  2. “I enjoy living in my dream house”

You get the picture…

Do that now and we’ll get ready to start putting it all together.

Step 4: Putting the vision board together

visualization-board-plan

We will now start putting together your first powerful vision board. This is a technique that can be used in every aspect of life, not just when you’re looking for love or money!

4.1 Use an A3 or A4 card board paper

The card board should be a little more durable and sturdy to hold up the weight of what’s on it.

On top of this cardboard, you will glue your photos, cutouts, and texts or affirmations.

4.2 Cut out the pictures

Now that you have collected and already cut out some images to use, it’s time to customize the pictures for your vision board.

Here’s what I mean:

4.3 Glue the pictures on the board

Using your new pictures, start by gluing or taping them on the card board. Make sure that each picture touches each other to avoid wasting space and make it look more cohesive.

Here’s what I mean:

{image}

That’s it, you’re almost done.

4.4 Final touches

Use a pen or a marker to draw some sketches or details, so it looks more personal to you.

Here’s what I mean:

Step-4-Putting-the-vision-board-together

Some people like to procrastinate

You can come up with a million reasons to put off making a vision board.

How many times have you intended to do it but then said…

  • I don’t have time right now. I’ll do it later…
  • I don’t have a board, and I don’t have time to buy all the materials.
  • It’s too expensive to buy materials.
  • I don’t read magazines so I don’t have any photos that I can use.

Sound familiar? The list can go on and on — until years have passed and you still haven’t started.

Well, here’s the solution, no more excuses and no more procrastination.

You can create a virtual vision board.

No glue, paper or cut outs.

Just purely digital.

Here’s how you would do that using an APP called CANVA.

Don’t worry, it’s free to use for simpler editing and limited photos.

Not only that, but you may also utilize some free stock footage from Canva.

Creating a virtual vision board is a great way to manifest your desires and achieve your goals.

Here’s how to create one in just a few simple steps.

But first, let’s look at what a digital vision board is.

A digital vision board is a tool

A layout of how your dreams would look like once they’ve materialized.

A person can visualize their dreams in their mind, but it’s a lot easier with a digital visoin board that you carry around on your mobile or as a desktop background image.

The reason or purpose of using a board is that it helps you to manifest your goals by making them visible.

You get to know what success looks like for you.

For example, if you are planning to achieve your goals.

An inspiring vision board will act as a mirror of your future self.

It reflects exactly how it will feel like to to have achieved your goals.

It will:

  • Define through pictures what it exactly feels like
  • And what it means to achieve your goals

That’s the purpose of a vision board.

Your virtual Vision Board is a few simple steps away.

Let’s get started.

Step 0: Checklist

checklist-physical-paper-board

Here’s a checklist of things you must use to create a digital version of your vision board.

  1. Computer or Mobile
  2. High speed Internet connection
  3. Canva Free or Pro account
  4. Basic computer skills

Step 1: Decide what your vision board will be about

When you’re looking for a way to make your life more successful, the first step is deciding what it’s going be all about.

Then you get to work.

You choose your high-value concept to concentrate on in the first 5 minutes.

For me, this is business and productivity.

This may be a major topic of interest to you, or it could be something else entirely.

What do you want most in life?

  • More Money
  • A new job or advancement in career
  • Love or a relationship
  • A vacation plan?

The first stage in creating a Vision Board is to express your goals in writing.

Make a firm decision.

Choose what you desire. Not what you require. Because the things you’ve always wanted will be drawn to you when you have the items you always desired.

Makes sense, right?

Begin by examining your current circumstance and making a list of things that would be critical in several years.

Avoid skipping steps, as this is a practical guide on how to create your dream board.

Done?

Decide what it is now. Make sure you write it down.

Step 2: Create a digital vision board using an online APP

With the help of an online app, you can create a vision board that is always at your fingertips.

I use Canva for this because it’s free and easy to use!

Now, make sure that you’re logged into your Canva account when working on your dream board.

Start by creating an account and you’ll be ready to put it all together.

You create an account by going here

https://www.canva.com/signup

create-account-canva.com

After you’re logged in, you can choose a template, images and all the other things you need to build your board.

Step 3: Choose your template

First thing you must do is to search for a “digital vision board” template.

Here’s what the first step looks like:

search-for-digital-vision-board

You’ll see a list of 390 suggested board ideas.

Choose a digital vision board template that you like.

If you don’t want to use a template, simply create “Create a Design” and it will create an empty document that you can use.

create-a-new-empty-A4-page

If you decide to use a ready made template, it comes with two options:

  1. Empty image holders (which will be replaced with your images)
  2. With example images already in place (which will be replaced with your images)

Before you start using a template, contemplate your vision, what you want and need.

Here’s what the list of digital vision board templates look like:

digital-vision-board-templates

Choose a template, and then choose a size for your document.

Step 4: Size of your document

Whether you’ve chosen a blank page or template, on the left hand side, you must manage options by:

  1. Check the size of your template by downloading it (does it look good on your Desktop)
  2. Change the size of your document if needed, to A4 or A3.
  3. Then choose whether you want it to be horizontal or vertical.

I have given some explanations below.

Depending on whether you want it to be horizontal or vertical, you need to add the numbers in the the correct order.

Horizontal A4 size measured in pixels:
3508 x 2480 pixels

horizontal-a4-vision-board-1-

Vertical A4 size measured in pixels:
2480 x 3508 pixels

vertical-a4-vision-board-1-1-

Note: The reason why you want to choose an A4 size is is because you may want to print it out later.

  • The A4 size is the ideal size for printing.
  • A4 is also suitable for Desktop background.

If you want a mobile template, then resize+make a copy and choose a mobile size.

You would have to check your mobile to find out about this.

If you’ve chosen a ready made digital vision board template, you must double check the size.

You can check the size here:

size-of-digital-vision-board-template-1

Next step in the process is to choose images for your goals.

Step 5: Choose images

Now it’s time to choose images for your digital vision board.

Since you’re already using Canva for your project, you can access free images here:

choose-images-for-your-digital-vision-board-1

With the free account you’re choices are limited, but should be enough to play around with your project.

Drag and drop images into image containers.

You can also move the containers around by selecting and dragging them.

If you don’t have enough images to choose from…

With the internet, this step is a cake walk.

Here are three sites to download free images for your board:

https://www.pexels.com/

https://unsplash.com/

https://pixabay.com/

Yes, you can upload those images into your Canva page directly, like this:

upload-your-images-1

Step 6: Choose words and/or affirmations

Write out positive affirmations that reflect how you want to FEEL.

Your vision of the perfect life should be more focused on how you want to feel than it is on what you want to have.

As a result, I like to use terms in my vision board to express how I want to feel, such as:

  • joyful
  • abundant
  • powerful
  • fearless
  • loved
  • strong

and so on.

Take some time to make a list of adjectives that describe how you wish to feel. You can look for them in your periodicals or make them yourself.

Add them to your vision board in a visually appealing way. Even though the world is in turmoil, you may continue to keep your enthusiasm high by doing this.

Step 7: Putting together your digital vision board

Putting-together-your-digital-vision-board

We will now start putting together your first powerful digital vision board.

  1. Add all your chosen images into the frames
  2. Add all your power words and affirmations inside the spaces for text
  3. Change the colors or style it anyway you like

That’s it.

You’re done.

4. Tips for keeping your vision board active

Now look at your vision board a few weeks later.

This gives you a sense of motivation and gratitude for all the wonderful things that have already come to pass in your life – often without you even realizing it!

Make adjustments to your vision board

After going through this process, make any necessary changes or adjustments to your vision board by removing or adding new or old goals and dreams.

This is an opportunity to see what you’ve accomplished, as well as bringing up some past goals or dreams that are no longer active for you.

A vision board is a powerful tool that can help you achieve your goals and dreams. It is a physical representation of what you want to achieve in your life, and it can be a great motivator.

There are many different ways to create good vision board ideas, but the most important thing is to make sure that it is personal to you. The way you do that is by using vision board images that influence your emotions.

Conclusion

If you’re looking to manifest your desires into reality, a vision board is a perfect way to do it.

Vision boards are simple to make and don’t require any special skills or tools. The most important part is that you put some thought into what you want to achieve and how you want to feel.

Once you have your vision board created, be sure to keep it in a place where you will see it every day.

Review your goals regularly and take action steps towards making them happen.

What will be the first thing you put on your vision board?
